Labor Safety, Hygiene, and Disaster Prevention Activities

At Nippon Paint Automotive Coatings Co., Ltd., we place our utmost priority on safety in all our activities. We are committed to Responsible Care (RC) Initiatives and other safety activities, while adhering to the safety principles shared by the Nippon Paint Holdings (NPHD) Group.

Safety Principles

  • ·Safety control basically depends on the prevention and the preventive control of accidents.
  • ·There is no man-made accident that cannot be prevented. Any incident caused by man can be eliminated.

Safety system

To create accident-free and disaster-free workplaces, Our each operational site and department prepare their own safety activity plans and safety educational plans, and are followed by all the employees. Monthly activities are reported at the meetings of the Safety & Environmental Protection Committee, which executives and all Functional Managers attend, so as to share information and promote safety measures across the company. Moreover, regular safety patrols are conducted to secure the safety and to improve safety activities in all districts.

Emergency drills

We handle organic solvents and other hazardous materials on a daily basis, and are fully aware of their risks. Even though we take sufficient safety measures, to prepare for possible emergency situation, each operational site has prepared guidelines for initial responses to incidents and annually hold fire drills, leakage prevention drills, and evacuation drills. In these programs, we aim at developing employees’ abilities to respond to individual situations with great flexibility. Moreover, we have formed fire brigades at each workplace to control a fire in its early stage.

Educational safety programs

We educational safety programs to prevent industrial accidents, fires, and other physical damage based on the belief that the essence of safety management lies in the cultivation of employees’ awareness.

Safety Operation Manual

We provide all its employees with a Safety Operation Manual, which stipulates basic safety issues, such as operation methods, ways to handle hazardous materials, and facility management methods. The manual has been revised based on reviews of past disasters, so as to prevent any recurrence. The manual, has been translated into English, Chinese, and other languages, and utilized on a global basis.

Safety education

Employees are encouraged to read the Safety Operation Manual aloud at morning assemblies and other occasions and to understand and observe safety rules concerning their tasks on a routine basis. For new employees, educational programs are provided concerning the possible risks of organic solvents and machines so as to prevent accidents (such as being caught in a machine). For new managers, educational programs are provided to deepen their sense of responsibility for securing their staff’s safety, in addition to their own safety.

Seminar on measures against static electricity

Regular seminars are held for employees who handle hazardous materials. Using a laboratory instrument that generates static electricity, the seminar is designed to provide hands-on experience about the risk of static electricity and needs for safety measures.
